You have very strong work here I mean it is absolutely outstanding. It really shows your understanding and passion for the topic. You use the perfect pieces of evidence. Your writing was well written and well expressed. However, I do feel like you could have wrapped up your paragraphs better that what you did your writing is very strong but their isn’t any point if you don’t connect it back to the topic. You should also be careful with the subjective voice in your writing. Other than that your writing is really good.

How do African Americans Feel About the Confederate Flag?

The government should ban the Confederate flag because it reminds African-Americans of the pain and suffering during enslavement. African Americans take offense to the Confederate flag because it represents white supremacy and discrimination. Many advocates may argue that it represents white independence and smaller government. However, if the Confederate flag is viewed as a sign of racism it should be banned due to the fact that the world is trying to refrain from discrimination based on color and  religion.The Confederate flag can cause unnecessary violence, promotion of racism, and promotion of the violation of human rights. African Americans should be able to be and feel free just like any other race because everyone is entitled to equal opportunities. Therefore, the Confederate flag should be banned.

The Confederate flag should not be able to be displayed freely because of how controversial its meaning is. Due to people being able to display the Confederate flag as they wish it may cause an uproar chaos among people. Zissou Rebecca the author of the article “Heritage or hate: the battle over the Confederate flag: should it be banned at school?” insists that the Confederate flag is a danger to society. Zissou states, “After months of seeing Jacob Green pull up to Millennium High School in Arizona with a Confederate flag hanging from his pickup truck, a classmate spoke up. The offended student confronted Jacob at school, and they got into a fight over the rebel flag” (15). This indicates that the Confederate flag does bring harm to society. School is a place where students should feel safe and if a flag is jeopardizing that it should be removed. On the other hand, many advocates argue that the Confederate flag doesn’t cause harm to anyone; it is just a simple statement representing independence. Zissou states, ”[Southerners] were fighting for … their right to be independent and not have the government control them” (ibid.). This indicates that the Confederate flag was and still is a sign of freedom for those that agree with the Confederate flag. However, the only reason confederate flag supporters wanted to have less government was to keep African Americans enslaved and oppressed. The Confederate flag does not represent something great; it represents violation of human rights. Therefore, the Confederate flag should be banned and not displayed in public.

The Confederate flag is used as a symbol of hatred and inequality towards African Americans. Some Confederate flag supporters still try to inflict violence on African Americans so many years after slavery ended. Komandori S. Murty and Ashwin G. Vyas, the authors of “African American Students Reaction to the Confederate Flag: social psychological Approach to Integrate Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome 1 and Microaggression Theory” claim that the Confederate flag should be banned. Murty and Vyas claim “ a 21-year old white man, Dylann Roof, single handedly gunned down nine innocent African Americans aged from 26 to 87 years… Two days later, Roof confessed to the crime and told the law enforcement authorities that he wanted to start a race war. Shortly thereafter the newspapers and televisions reported that a website was apparently published by Roof, which contained his explanation for the attack, his photos posing at slave plantations and Confederate landmarks” (134). This indicates that there’s still hatred in the world and allowing people to display the Confederate flag is normalizing people’s attempts to harm others mentally and physically.

Although many advocates may argue that everyone doesn’t find the confederate flag offensive and that it is unfair to the people that want the flag to be allowed. Murty and Vyas states”As the descendant of several brave Americans who fought for the Confederacy, I have not viewed Mississippi’s current state flag as offensive”(Murty and Vyas). This indicates that not everyone of African American descent feel the confederate is a threat or a burden. However, the  considerations of other people should be put into play if the people that want or don’t really mind the Confederate flag believe that it causes no harm or represent nothing extremely inappropriate they shouldn’t mind it being taken down. Therefore, the government should ban the confederate flag.

Any sign of racism or hatred should not be condoned by the government or anyone for that matter. If the government is not willing to protect their people and citizens as their oath implies then the controversial topic of the confederate flag goes way deeper than just acts of hatred it is now the lack of human rights. Fullwood, Reggie the author of “ The Confederate Flag a Symbol of Racism in America – SC Take it Down” believes that the government condones the act of hatred. Fullwood states” I’m sorry folks – racism and hatred is racism and hatred; and when a state or local government allows symbols of racism to hang over public buildings, it sends the message that those views are being condoned. This indicates that the government is not providing equal opportunities for all people.

However, many people will argue that the confederate flag is kind representation of being proud of where you came from. Fullwood states, “Those who fly the flag or wear it on a hat or bumper sticker consider themselves as simply proud Southerners”. This indicates that some southerners are proud of a flag that was carried in a war were white southerners fought to keep slavery in effect. People should not be proud of oppressing others especially when no one is superior or inferior to each other and the government should not have a problem with protecting their people. Therefore, the government should ban the confederate because of the hatred and racism it inflicts upon African Americans.

The controversial topic of the confederate flag goes way deeper than violence between civilanes. The controversy over the confederate flag is now interfering with the government. Fullwood Reggie the author of “Confederate Flag’s Symbol is Clear-Monuments Not So Much” provides evidence that claims that the confederate flag interferes the government. [Fullwood] claims”There is a reason that Barack Obama did not win one “Traditional Southern” state. Sure he won Florida twice, but the Sunshine State is unique because of the millions of northern immigrants and the state’s diversity in population. It’s an issue that is closely related to the flying of the confederate flag”[Fullwood]. This indicates that confederate flag supporters are not only inflicting hatred and racism towards other civilians but the government as well.

As the proud banner of Southern patriotism, this criss crossed ban of stars is supposed to represent the South’s struggle against the oppression from the North”[Fullwood].This indicates that the confederate flag stands for freedom of the south and the south being relieved from the oppression caused by the south. However, the south was oppressed by the north because of slavery. Therefore, the governments should ban the confederate because it is interfering with the government it is not just interfering with civilians any more.

The Confederate flag is a very controversial topic and brings an argument of of whether it is heritage or hate. This indicates that the use of the confederate flag is a sign of hatred towards black people. Roof gunning down innocent African-American has hatred written all over it especially if there’s no motive besides the victims being African-American. Many advocates may argue that it is a simple demonstration of southern pride. Lippard claims”In 2015, 54 percent of Americans polled saw the flag as a symbol of ‘Southern pride”[Lippard 56].This indicates that a hand full of caucasians believe the flag is a representation of freedom of the north. However, there are more caucasians that believe the Confederate flag does represent hatred according to the data.Therefore, the confederate flag should be banned due to the meaning that is conveyed.

The confederate flag is a very sensitive topic to most African-American and or minorities because of what it stands for. The Confederate flag pushes oppression back on to people who were once oppressed and exploited. It is unacceptable to allow the confederate flag to continue to be displayed, the government wouldn’t be doing its job if it continues.Unnecessary violence will occur and the government can also be corrupted due to the different views. The Confederate flag is view as a symbol of racism to some African-Americans because of the want to keep blacks enslaved by white-supremacist. Most white southerners consider the confederate flag to be a symbol of  freedom and independence. However, while white southerners are proud of the confederate flag while black southerners are oppressed and discriminated against by confederate flag supporters. The moral point of this is argument is that the governments should ban the Confederate flag because of corruption of the government’s, hatred acts inflicted upon African-American people and the violation of human rights.The controversy behind the confederate flag is destroying society slowly.The Confederate flag is causing unnecessary violence on civilians and it is unhealthy for the governments and ordinary people. Innocent people are being gunned down because of the color of their skin. If the government fails to do anything about it that proves that the government is condemning discrimination among blacks. Civilians should be advocating to take down the confederate flag so everyone is in full use of their human rights.Therefore, the government should ban the Confederate flag because of the danger and inequality it brings to society.

Argumentative reflection

Reflection on Argument Essay

While I wrote this argumentative essay I was somewhat relieved because I was able to learn from my mistakes I made from writing the expository essay.  Even though the prompts were completely different I still manage to learn from it. Problems that I have came across while writing the expository essay like using citations correctly or shortening my sentence hopefully have gotten better in my argumentative essay. Having more experience or practice with writing longer papers really helped take pressure off of me. I felt more confident when writing this paper because I felt like I knew what I was doing. All of the previous papers like the literacy narrative and the introductory letter  prepared me tremendously for the much harder papers such as the expository and argumentative paper. Due to writing so many papers organizing my work has also became a lot easier. Like I stated before having all of those writing opportunities really taken a weight off of my shoulders.

I started early that the expository and argumentative essay were similar but yet different in many ways. Both papers required the same skill set as do many other formal academic papers. However, even though I used the same technique the prompts and the information required to attempt to answer the question was were very different. Writing the expository essay was surpassed the argumentation essay when it comes to the amount of stress received. The expository essay was only stressful because it was the first time I used the tools and or skills in a longer paper than usual. My first assumption of writing the argumentative paper was that I Was going to struggle tremendously with completing this essay. Since the expository essay was hard I was expecting the argumentative essay to be harder but it was the opposite. I’m not saying that it was easy because it was far from easy I was able prepare myself  for the argumentative paper. The paper itself didn’t create all of the stress the conditions that I had to work in were very tough. I had all of the materials the were required to complete the paper I just didn’t have the necessary time to complete the paper. I was on a very tight schedule that did not compliment the time needed to finish the paper.

Due to my tight schedule forced me to create some sort of  schedule to organize when and what I was going to complete. I think I planned out my essay pretty well for the simple fact that it is complete with the very little time I was given. I did a lot of outlining to make the typing process go smoothly and quickly. Making the typing process go by with no problems was a top priority because it takes majority of the time. I had to change my ways to complete the paper in a orderly fashion. I certainly had to adapt, I adapted to the conditions and news ways of approaching my writing. These adaptation are not something that I wanted to do but something I had to do for my grade and paper sake. Even though there were many complications when trying to write and type this essay all is well.

Before I started writing this essay I had a little bit of work to do on my thesis. My thesis wasn’t answering the prompt as clearly as I had wanted to. So I formed the question differently to answer the question. Making sure my thesis is really answers the question has became apart of my process. From now on i’m going to make sure my thesis is strong because if your thesis is weak your whole essay is also going to be weak. If you don’t have a strong foundation your whole essay is destined to fall apart. Speaking on the process making sure the MLA format is correct. Remembering all of the components of the process is very hard because it’s hard to double space , put the header and many more things. It just a lot of things required to write an essay especially when you have to write it with MLA format. I didn’t use everything in the format in the MLA format because I didn’t use the quote integration. I don’t really know how to use it and I didnt think it was needed. Everything besides that I used and I think I used it correctly. Since I practice so much with source identification, in-text citation and many more so it has become a habit. My understanding for the MLA process has really grew tremendously.

Addressing this argument was kind of hard because I am very outspoken so it is hard not to put  my opinion in my paper especially for a topic that I feel so strongly about. My want to voice my opinion really affected my writing and my process a lot. Since my process was altered I used the peer suggestions a lot I found them very helpful this time. The critics had to do with my formatting not my actually writing which I really appreciated that. The suggestion really helped me with proofreading and revising my work as a collective. I think I proof read a lot better in this essay due to the peer review because I believe that the person that is writing can’t always find their own mistakes. Your work improves so much if have someone look over your work. I also got outside help from my academic coordinator. My academic coordinator helped me a lot especially because she is older than me and she has a lot more experience than me. I made a lot of changes because I spent a lot more time on my proofreading. Writing this paper was hard but it was still easier than expected. I do feel like I improved a lot with my writing I have gained a lot more confidence when it comes to writing. I do appreciate all of the opportunities to better my writing and I do believe it has paid off.

Expository Reflection

When I wrote my expository essay my thought process was all over he place. For some reason I hand a hard time forgiving out where to start. I had somewhat of an idea but it was vague. I had my stance and my evidence but I didn’t know how or where to start or use it. At the beginning the evidence didn’t have any importance. I guess my passion for the task wasn’t their the topic had no relevance to my life so it made it harder for me to progress. Along with having a hard time starting the task  it was hard trying to manage all of the task that were required to complete the essay. Finding time to find and read sources to decide whether it is relevant or not to my topic. Trying to find the all of the information for my citations within my annotated bibliography. Writing a proposal for the first time about a topic that I have never learned about before taking FIQWS. I decided to pick what needed to be completed first for my paper.

Speaking of finding information finding sources was a headache. Finding information that support both sides as very hard. The articles were mostly pro so finding cons arguments was very rare. Due to the lack of opposing information I had to reuse articles and quotes. I didn’t want to reuse articles and quotes but there was a limited to certain information which became very frustrating. After I found decent informations writing my expository essay becoming easier. I think finding evidence to support my claim was the hardest thing and the biggest set back. After I overcame that set back writing the essay was a little easier. I am glad that I had these back because it made me stronger as a person and as a writer. I was able to strive for greatness in limited conditions.

   Once I decided the order I should complete the task in it became much easier to progress. First I started with finding appropriate sources then I created citations than my summary for my annotated bibliography. Soon after I started to write my essay. I decided witch document I wanted  to use first and or what was more relevant. Then I Separated the evidence from positive and negative and paired them together. Then I started to write my paper and it became a lot easier. Creating an order and organizing my paper took a lot of stress off of my shoulders I was officially one step closer to completing my paper. Soon I realized  that their as a lot more to come.

Writing this expository essay was really a learning experience for me. I learned A lot of new things while completing this task. I learned that puppetry does actually benefit children and works in many different fields. Puppetry is used in health education, academics and in teaching children life skills. The experience of finding research to support my stance broaden my knowledge. Being able to increase land or expand my knowledge was and is very much appreciated. Before I Took FIQWS I didn’t know anything about puppetry it was a pleasure to write about it even though I wasn’t to passionate about he topic. I appreciate every learning opportunity thrown at me because it is very rare that kids get to join a early college program and learn about puppetry. Even though this task was very complex it was very beneficial ab challenge me a lot.

My review process was very long but was about 13 hours long, I thought  I was never going finish. Since the expository essay was five pages constantly reading it was so repetitive and long. While I was reviewing my work I tried my hardest to eliminate all spelling and grammatical errors. I believe that the writer can’t always spot all of their mistakes so it’s important that the writer seeks outside help. That’s exactly what I did I had my twelfth grade academic coordinator help me revise my  paper once more. I think that having someone there to help you further develop your ideas is very important because IT helps me learn what to look for when I have to edit my own papers. Learning how to edit my own ears makes me a better writer and college ready.

To go into depth with my revision process I would like to start with saying that it was that I have mixed emotions about editing papers. I understand the importance of editing but it is almost harder than actually writing the paper itself. Editing paper is more to time consuming than any other task in my opinion. However, I do appreciate the process because it just going to make me a better writer in the end. I am also grateful for this because he profession that  want to pursue requires a lot of note taking and writing and editing lengthy papers all he time is getting me one step closer to my dream. This paper was well needed because this was the longest paper I ever wrote and edited, it was good exercise for my writing skills and really challenged me as a    person. All the task like the proposal, per review, annotated bibliography and the essay made me work really hard. In order to complete you have to be persistence and have a strong work ethic. Overall writing this essay had so much in store for me it was unbelievable writing the expository essay cam with alot or positive and negative effects on me. Each good and bad experience was and is well appreciated becuase all writing the essay did was make me a better writer and person. While I was writing about how puppetry tuaght children academics and life skills writing this essay taught me academics and life skills.

Reflection Literacy Narrative

Writing this letter was extremely easy I mean come on  who doesn’t like talking about themselves? This tasked basically asked me to spill out my life story on blank sheet of paper. How hard  could that possibly be for a girl who enjoys running her mouth? Just as fast as my mouth can run, I thought about what I wanted to say and how I wanted to say it. Then I created a order that made sense. It was  was like I had already imagined my paper in my head. It wasn’t hard deciding what I wanted to talk about in my paper. I just stated what I would tell a stranger on the street if they had asked me to introduce myself. My goal was to write for the people who really wonder who Promise Butler is which is why I chose topics that really mattered. Having to many topics was never a problem for me it depends on how in to depth you go in to the topic. I chose whether I want give more detail or  not I probably would go more into depth about a topic to show the reader how passionate I am about the subject. If it is a more delicate topic or a topic that lacks value I wouldn’t include a lot of detail. The type of writing required for the introductory letter was not my favorite. Professional letter writing limits my personality. It is very hard to find a way to really give the reader a taste of who I am if I am masking your personality to fit the requirements of the task. Even though the style of writing caused me to adapt to complete this task it was intimidating at all. Although using a subjective voice constantly was very annoying there were  times where I would say you instead of “I” or “my’. On the contrary I am very proud of my introductory letter I spent an appropriate amount of time typing, revising and editing my paper and I am satisfied with the outcome. I very much appreciated this task and I hope that my efforts were enough.

Identifying if puppetry can teach more than the common core curriculum  is very important to me because the classroom is a very structured place . I think It is  very important to implementing puppetry to step away from all of the mathematical equations and implement life lessons. It’s important to acknowledge the things that aren’t in a text book. I like to think that having and education requires book smarts and life skill. Many advocates may argue that having puppets in the learning environment would distract the children from their educations. During the expository essay I want to acknowledge many things that are going to further identify whether Puppetry has negative and positive effects on children and or the classroom environment.In the expository essay I want to ask what type of things can puppetry teach? Do children actually enjoy puppetry in their academic workspace?Is puppetry a distraction to the younger children? What is the outcome of using puppetry in a learning environment? In my essay I will provide facts that support answering  my point to get rid of any biases . I think a part of being educated is being able to be well rounded and being able to handle any situation that comes to. The point of these questions is also to see if puppetry will help children as they age or in the real world. Even though I plan to prove that puppetry is beneficial there will be some information that will contradict my point. However it will be refuted to justify my point. This indicates that  puppetry is a useful tool for teaching health skill and academics. Although, many educators believe that using puppetry to educate students there are some negative effects. Many educators  find themselves teaching life skills in a classroom setting and they think incorporating puppetry will help the information to adhere to the children. Susannah Brown the author of “Building character through puppetry” argues that puppetry does contribute to amount of imformation the child obtains and learns. Brown states” Puppetry captures the imagination and interest of young students. Story are told and retold to children through pictures, puppets, stuffed animals,toys,dolls,gesture,dramatic voices …Many of the stories involve some moral decisions or event”( 47). This indicates that constantly kids are being taught and reminded how to make decisions based on a person ethics,manners and character. Brown also provides evidence that puppetry may have negative effects on the classroom environment. Brown claims”To only focus on specific set of character educations traits leads to a false understanding of character”( 48). This indicates that teaching kids the wrong or certain character education traits cause children to get the wrong idea of the concept. Therefore, the use of puppetry to teach children life skills like making moral decisions may come with positive and negative effects.

The use of puppetry in the classroom effects the children in some many ways whether it be positive or negative. Many advocate argue that puppetry can be a major distractions and take away from a child’s ability to remain focused. Karen E.Wohlwend the author of “On screen, Many Fingers : Young Children’s Collaborative Literacy Play with Digital Puppetry Apps and Touchscreen Technologies” argues for both sides of the argument. Wohlend claims that “ childrens play with digital puppetry app look crowded,noisy and chaotic”( 155). This indicates that using puppetry in the classroom environment may cause an uproar and or a distraction. Karen E. claims ” a closer look at just 15 seconds of continuous activity is enough to reveal the collaborative literacy play-coordinated storying, digital literacy learning multimodal production, and play negotiation that is actually happening here”. ( 155).This indicates that even though puppetry may seem loud, crowded and chaotic the results of using puppetry to educate children may be beneficial. Belfior states “Preschool children ranging from ages one to three, can be overly active and easily irritable or cranky. Puppet are perfect for grabbing their attention because they are safe,fun,and a natural progression from educational cartoons”(Belfiore 10).This indicates That puppetry helps calm children down to make the learning environment less chaotic and more productive. Many advocates may also argue that puppetry is a distraction to learning environment of young children. Brown claims that” those in favor of implementing character education in American schooling claim that teacher and administrator have forgotten the basic task of developing moral citizens”(48). This indicates that not only can puppetry distract students it can distract teachers from implementing and or providing the necessary information. Teachers have different opinions on weather puppetry can help teach material other than academics and or the common core curriculum. Some teacher may believe that the classroom should be structured and uniform and other teachers believe that the classroom should be less structured. Synovitz claims” puppetry should be considered for use as an educational and clinical tool because it provides a creative learning strategy that allows children freedom of expression while stimulating learning through play”( This proves that puppetry is beneficial in many fields and it provides freedom of expressions and creativity. Even though some educators believe that the classroom should be less structured. Woodland claims” digital puppetry app looks crowded,noisy, and chaotic- the king of play that teachers might move quickly to redirect to more orderly turn-taking and quiet composing”(155). This indicates that puppetry can cause a eruption in the classroom so the some teacher would rather more order. Even though you did great in these parts there were still some things I noticed in your paper that I would like to point out and one of those things were having page numbers. In MLA format one must have their last name and the page number of the page on the right top corner, I noticed that none of your pages there was no page number that indicated which page it was so next time please remember that. I also notice that there was no introduction paragraph in your paper which is an important paragraph that your paper must have. Besides from those two things I would like to suggest saving some concluding sentences for the conclusion instead of having them at the end of every body paragraph because it would just seem like you are coming to a conclusion for every paragraph.

Literary Narrative

Angie Thompson is a black African-American who lived in Jackson, Mississippi. She released a phenomenal  novel called The Hate U Given that touches upon many significant topics. Angie emphasizes police brutality and oppression being force upon the minority. Angie uses a 16 year old girl named Starr Carter as a protagonist to get her message across. Starr Carter is an African-American girl living a double life. Starr lives in a neighborhood named Garden Heights where her father was a former gang member and she attended a white private school called Williamson. Due to the two different environments Starr gained a split personality: she monitored her speech and behavior among her white peers.

Starr felt like she needed to represent her whole race because she was the only black student in her school. Starr got so caught up in  trying to be something she was not, she started deny were she came from and who she was. Starr was at a spring break party and ran into an old friend who was later killed by a police officer. Three bullets to his back ended his life and Star denied knowing the victim to save her reputation at her school. Starr soon used the grief of losing an old friend and a close friend when she was ten to fight for what she believed was right. Starr used her voice to protest and provide justice for the loved ones she and many lost. This novel is absolutely inspiring. The topics that are acknowledged in the text are issues that are occuring in modern society.

Angie Thompson really inspired me with this novel because her choice of words and topics really spoke to me. This novel made me feel like I was an author with a blank page, a pen full of ink and a mind brewed with new ideas and aspirations. I was ready to rewrite, edit and revise the draft of my life and rewrite the story someone already wrote for me. I suddenly had new ambitions and goals to meet. Before I read this book I didn’t know what I was striving for. I knew that I was striving for greatness and success but I didn’t know what I considered  to be great or successful. I suddenly knew what I wanted to do with my life.

After I identified what my goals were I started to incorporate them in my everyday life. I started doing little things like voicing my opinion and exercising my work ethic to get one step closer to my dreams and goals. Reading about Starr Carter and how she overcame her fears really meant a lot to me. I realized that you can either run away from your fears or you can face them and rise. I realized instead of using my anger towards my mother’s death to take away from my goals, I could it as motivation. This book is  one of the major reasons why I continue to strive for greatness.

Once I realized what I wanted to do with  my life, it became the only thing on my mind. Literally everything I do is contributing to my success. For example, after a long day of school and a fair share of homework, I still push myself to go to squash practice because I know squash is going to get me to where I need to go. I know that I have people expecting me to do great things and rooting for me on the other side of the finish line. My only option is to fight and knock over the obstacles to get to the other side. This book did so much for me by opening up doors that I never knew were there.

Now, you’re probably wondering how I was so lucky to get my hands on this phenomenal book. I went to this camp called Songadeewin for two years. During  my second summer attending this camp my excitement died down tremendously. I honestly did not want to be there at all. I was having the worst time of my life because I felt so out of place. I felt extremely uncomfortable because the camp was predominantly white. . There were  few people of color and the ones who were there acted and carried themselves different from what I was used to.

As well as the camp being predominantly white, the girls that attended the camp had already been  going for a fair amount of time. Therefore, the girls already had established their friend groups and were unwilling to allow people into their group. I Quickly  found myself trying pretend to be someone I wasn’t just to fit in. I figured that if I’m going to be their for a month, why not just make the best of it? However, I stopped myself in my tracks because I realized  what I was doing and I wasn’t proud of it. Whether I had friends or not, I needed to make the best out of it because going home was not an option. So I started reading left and right. I was burning through books like it was my last day to live. Even though I never really liked reading I was in a  desperate situation to keep myself occupied.

During my journey I came across The Hate U Give and it  changed my life. Opening this book made realize that as an African-American  individual the only thing society can’t take away from me is my skin and education. When I was trying to change myself just to fit in it was just a smack in the face to my ancestors. My ancestors didn’t fight for our rights so I could  be something that I am not. They fought so I can embrace and live comfortably in my skin. Ever since reading The Hate U Give my blackness and education became the most important thing in the world to me.  Everything I do now is following the blueprint to build my success and to let my ancestors know that they didn’t struggle for no reason. Like I stated so many times this book is phenomenal and it will never be forgotten.

Literary Narrative

Angie Thompson is a black African-American who lived in Jackson,Mississippi. Angie released a phenomenal  novel called The Hate U Give. In this novel Angie Thompson touches upon many significant topics. Angie emphasizes police brutality and oppression being force upon the minority. Angie uses a 16 year old girl named Starr Carter as a protagonist to get her message across. Starr Carter is African-American Girl living a double life. Starr lives in  a neighborhood named Garden Heights were her father was a former gang member meanwhile she attended a white private school called williamson. Due to the two different environments starr gained a split personality she monitored her speech and behavior among her white peers. Starr felt as though she needed to represent her whole race because she was the only black student in her school. Starr got so caught up in living in trying to be something she is not she started deni were she came from and who she was. Starr was at a spring break party and ran into a old friend and he is killed by a police officer, three bullets to his back ended his life and Star denied knowing the victim to save her reputation at her school. Starr soon used her the grief of losing an old friend and a close friend when she was ten  to fight for what she believed was right. Research Proposal: Puppetry in Common Core Curriculum

Identifying if puppetry can teach more than the common core curriculum  is very important to me because the classroom is a very structured place . I think It is  very important to implementing puppetry to step away from all of the mathematical equations and implement life lessons. It’s important to acknowledge the things that aren’t in a text book. I like to think that having and education requires book smarts and life skill. Many advocates may argue that having puppets in the learning environment would distract the children from their educations.

During the expository essay I want to acknowledge many things that are going to further identify whether Puppetry has negative and positive effects on children and or the classroom environment.In the expository essay I want to ask what type of things can puppetry teach? Do children actually enjoy puppetry in their academic workspace?Is puppetry a distraction to the younger children? What is the outcome of using puppetry in a learning environment? In my essay I will provide facts that support answering  my point to get rid of any biases . I think a part of being educated is being able to be well rounded and being able to handle any situation that comes to. The point of these questions is also to see if puppetry will help children as they age or in the real world. Even though I plan to prove that puppetry is beneficial there will be some information that will contradict my point. However it will be refuted to justify my point. What I have stated above is what’s going to help me attempt to prove whether puppetry comes with positive and negative effects,

Belfiore article is relevant because it states that puppets help grab children’s attention witch is good if your tried to help absorb knowledge. Belfiore talks about how puppets can be safe and fun for the child. It is also the best way and effective way to deliver information to children according to the article. Belfiore talks about puppetry providing education in a fun and beneficial way. Belfiore conveys that puppetry helps children step out of their comfort zone kids that are really shy have spoken out due to puppetry. Belfiore article is perfect for my essay because it clearly proves that puppets can teach life lesson as well as the common core curriculum.

Expository Essay: What is The Effect of using puppetry to Teach academics and life skills To children?

Often times students may struggle with meeting their full potential at school, puppets may or may not be the solution to that problem due to the positive and negative effects that may come with it. Educators can implement puppets into their lessons to teach academics, life skills and character. However, as well as being beneficial, it can also be detrimental to the education of students and the work space.The use of puppets in the classroom environments have been proven to either add to a child’s education or take away from it. The fact based evidence has been credited by many different educators in many different fields perspective. The objective is to arrive at a conclusion of whether puppets can or can not help educators inform students on academics and many more.

Many educators claim that they use puppets to contribute to the learning and support system for children. Ackland Tilbrook et.al is the author of “ A Review of the Literature-The use of interacting puppets stimulation in nursing education and children’s healthcare” believe that puppetry is beneficial in a learning environment. This articles specifies the result of using puppetry to educate children on different aspects like health care and academics. Tilbrook claims “The use of puppets historically provided play therapist, health care professionals and early childhood educators with a tool to observe, educate and support children”(Tilbrook et.al 73). This indicates that  puppetry is a useful tool for teaching health skill and academics. Although, many educators believe that using puppetry to educate students there are some negative effects. Tilbrook states “Additionally, research into nurse and nurse educators understanding of the power of play and the impact of play on their practice should be better understood to help facilitate the facilitation of puppet simulation to practice”(Tilbrook et.al 78). This indicates that although puppetry has been proven to do great things for children the amount of puppet play must be limited to get all the benefits out of using puppetry to teach students.Therefore, the use of puppetry in the learning environment may or may not have negative and positive effect.

Many educators  find themselves teaching life skills in a classroom setting and they think incorporating puppetry will help the information to adhere to the children. Many advocates may argue that puppetry can’t help teach children life lessons. Susannah Brown the author of “Building character through puppetry” argues that puppetry can help teach students. Brown states “ Puppetry captures the imagination and interest of young students. Story are told and retold to children through pictures, puppets, stuffed animals,toys,dolls,gesture,dramatic voices …Many of the stories involve some moral decisions or event”(Brown 47). This indicates that constantly kids are being taught and reminded how to make decisions based on a person ethics,manners and character. Brown also provides evidence that puppetry may have negative effects on the classroom environment. Brown claims”To only focus on specific set of character educations traits leads to a false understanding of character”(Brown 48). This indicates that teaching kids the wrong or certain character education traits cause children to get the wrong idea of the concept. Therefore, the use of puppetry to teach children life skills like making moral decisions may come with positive and negative effects.

The use of puppetry in the classroom effects the children in some many ways whether it be positive or negative. Many advocate argue that puppetry can be a major distractions and take away from a child’s ability to remain focused. Karen E.Wohlwend the author of “on screen,Many fingers : Young Children’s Collaborative Literacy Play with Digital Puppetry Apps and Touchscreen Technologies.” argues for both sides of the argument. Wohlend claims that “ childrens play with digital puppetry app look crowded,noisy and chaotic”(Wohlend 155). This indicates that using puppetry in the classroom environment may cause an uproar and or a distraction. Karen E. also states” a closer look at just 15 seconds of continuous activity is enough to reveal the collaborative literacy play-coordinated storying, digital literacy learning multimodal production, and play negotiation that is actually happening here”.(Wohlend 155).This indicates that even though puppetry may seem loud, crowded and chaotic the results of using puppetry to educate children may be beneficial. Therefore, the use of puppetry to teach students academics and life skills does come with positive and negative effects.

Educators may argue that puppetry is a great way to grab children’s attention to help them absorbs all the information given to them. Christie Belfor the author of “Puppets Talk, Children Listen: How Puppets Are Effective Teaching Aids for Kids.” claims that puppetry helps grabs children attention. Belfor states “Preschool children ranging from ages one to three, can be overly active and easily irritable or cranky. Puppet are perfect for grabbing their attention because they are safe,fun,and a natural progression from educational cartoons”(Belhore 10).This indicates That puppetry helps calm children down to make the learning environment less chaotic and more productive. Many advocates may also argue that puppetry is a distraction to learning environment of young children. Brown claims that” those in favor of implementing character education in American schooling claim that teacher and administrator have forgotten the basic task of developing moral citizens”(Brown 48). This indicates that not only can puppetry distract students it can distract teachers from implementing and or providing the necessary information. Due to the fact that puppetry can benefit students and distract them at the same time results in positive and negative effects on the learning environment.

Teachers have different opinions on weather puppetry can help teach material other than academics and or the common core curriculum. Some teacher may believe that the classroom should be structured and uniform and other teachers believe that the classroom should be less structured. Bailey Synovitz the author of “Using Puppetry in a Coordinated School Health Program” believes that the classroom environment should be creative. Synovitz claims” puppetry should be considered for use as an educational and clinical tool because it provides a creative learning strategy that allows children freedom of expression while stimulating learning through play” This proves that puppetry is beneficial in many fields and it provides freedom of expressions and creativity. Even though some educators believe that the classroom should be less structured. Woodland claims” digital puppetry app looks crowded,noisy, and chaotic- the king of play that teachers might move quickly to redirect to more orderly turn-taking and quiet composing”(Wohlend 155). This indicates that puppetry can cause a eruption in the classroom so the some teacher would rather more order. Due to the evidence provided many teachers have different views on puppetry in the classroom environment.

All types of educators use puppetry to teach life skills and academics in the learning space. It has been proven to come with positive and negative effects that influence the youth and or children tremendously. Annette Harden the author that created Caterpillars and Catalysts’: A Year of Literacy Learning in an Early Years Classroom Privileging Dramatic Pedagogies.” is sided with the positive side of puppetry. Harden insists that” Children became more productive, persistent and in most cases, competent writers”( Harden 23). This indicates that the use of puppetry in a classroom setting result in children becoming further educated. Many advocates argue that puppetry should not be in the classroom setting because of it negative additives. Brown states”As with any school reform issue,developing and implementing relevant character education is a difficult and uncertain task”(Brown 49). This indicates using puppetry to teach character education is a very hard thing to do for the teachers. Making sure using puppetry is benefiting  the students is a very hard to do. Therefore, using puppetry comes with a lot of positive and negative effects.Young children often struggle with grasping their full potential at school wether its with obtainin knowledge or paying attention. This source will contribute to my expository essay because it talks about puppetry helping developing a character at a early age. Brown talks about how in puppet show plots usually convey a character overcoming moral dilemmas. Brown connects that with educating children on how to overcome their dilemmas. Brown also acknowledges that educating students goes beyond math and science students need to be educated on life skills. Brown also identifies the cons of the situations. Brown states that involving puppetry in academics can create false understanding of character education. Brown also states that teachers forget the basics of developing a moral citizen. Brown is perfect because it identifies the pros and cons of implementing puppetry in childhood education.

Harden’s article is relevant to my expository essay because it states that the use of puppetry can interconnect with each other to create something beneficial for young students. Harden shows how puppetry connects with a child’s ability to express themselves. The points demonstrated in the text are the points that I want acknowledge in my essay. I believe that students need to be educated on much more than core classes. Kids need to be taught how to channel their emotion and how to express themselves.  This indicates that the sources it relevant for my essay.
